About me

I’m Bohdan Rodiuk Chekan, an artist and a designer from Kyiv.

I was born in a great creative family of a famous political journalist and script writer, an actress, an outstanding diva of Ukrainian movie theater Olena Checkan and a talented Ukrainian architect Stanislav Rodiuk.

I have been surrounded by art since my childhood and it influenced my hobbies a lot. I started drawing. Due to the fact that my uncle Ezhi Bohdanovych was a physicist, I was interested in science as well.

The opportunity to piece these passions together brought me to philosophy in the end. However, the desire to create turned out to be the strongest and it materialized in various techniques of fine art.

And lately, I also discovered digital art.

Modern digital technologies have had a tremendous impact on art.  The creation of special programs and new opportunities that are provided to artists allow us to fully reveal our creative potential, find new ways to transmit images, create futuristic images and realize all our most fantastic dreams.

The world would be better if we listened to ourselves and focused on the depth of our desires.

The accelerating pace forces us to change our desires and abandon them.  Vanity knocks focus, forcing to forget about the dream and its scale.

Do you remember sitting at the school desk and a math teacher drawing you planes on the blackboard for the first time?  He made them multidirectional  as paper sheets floating in the air and it was so strikingly different from the elementary circles, squares and trapezoids.  Then I did not want to be this surface as thick as school chalk.  The closest analogy of the geometric plane in the children's mind was a sheet of glass which was twirled  and at some moments of displacement it became almost imperceptible…

Thus, some kind of registration is subconsciously important and demanded by a person — a clear coordinate in the surrounding space, the right “to be”.  You dreamed at least of a second plane that would cross yours and, as in the zero axis of the coordinates, would create its length horizontally and vertically - your spatial world.  But we began to prepare for the philosophy of non-acceptance of a lonely plane in elementary school when we first drew a vector.  And the horrible thing  is that it did not have a clear length!

The children's mind was blowing: an arrow at the end of the vector could appear on both sides and a line - at any degree!  There were no points “A” and “B” at the beginning and at the end.  And it seemed that there was nothing worse than being this unattached vector arrow, but as time went on and having become an adult, you understood that this is the only true analogue of your sensible earthly existence.

“Among his various possible beings each man always finds one which is his genuine and authentic being. The voice which calls him to that authentic being is what we call “vocation.” But the majority of men devote themselves to silencing that voice of the vocation and refusing to hear it. They manage to make a noise within themselves…to distract their own attention in order not to hear it; and they defraud themselves by substituting for their genuine selves a false course of life.”

Jose Ortega Y Gasset

Look at the stars more often. When your soul feels bad, when you are offended, when a spiritual storm comes on you - go out into the air and stay alone with heaven. Then the soul will calm down.
